We visited for the Omikase experience as a birthday celebration and it was fabulous. Chef Shintaro Ito provided exceptional food and matched Sake and was engaging, informative and clearly very proud of the quality and provenance of every single item on his plates. It was fascinating to watch his amazing skills and every morsel was full of subtle, balanced flavours and textures. The whole evening was an extremely memorable, and very personal interaction with a really talented chef in a lovely atmosphere. We could not recommend this experience more highly.

After dropping the little one off at Winchester College, my wife and I went for a stroll around the area. Lunch time arrives, so we pick a restaurant. We gave this one a try. The restaurant was busy with staff zooming around. The waiter that came to our table at first looked quite scary, but when he started to take our order, we found out he DOES smile and was actually quite friendly and polite ?. We had a 3 course set menu. Food was delicious and we didn't have to wait for anything. Instant service! Not bad at all. Give this place a try.

For me, this place doesn’t live up to the hype. It felt like when you go to a restaurant in an incredible location, the view makes up for what else is missing. The food was very good but served on cheap plates and over priced. The portions were small and felt like they weren’t finished before being sent out. The staff were fine. Surprisingly few veggie options and lack of imagination for alternatives (I had the salad which is usually served with pork scratchings and there was no alternative offered). The paneer bao were excellent. I’d love this place to thrive but I’d like to see more care and flare. Photo of my cheesecake.

Kat and Lilly are the best!! Fantastic vibes were brought and the food was lovely, would recommend ? First day of the new menu and they were both there to provide differentiating opinions dependant on what spice level we were after. The food was top notch and the service, great. Our only complaint is that the “Aioli Wanna Be With You Tots” were far too salty but we didn’t say anything at the time of the meal so that’s on us. Thank you Kat, Lilly and the chefs for a great evening!

The pub itself is a piece of history. The food seemed a bit pricey. The stake&ale pie was ok, not to my taste. I liked the side gravy that came with it. The cabbage was interesting, but not a wow thing. Service was nice and quick. The portion was huge, I would say 2 people could easily leave the place and belly full up. Overall not a bad place, I'll give it another try and try something different to eat.

What a delightful friendly pub. We had lunch in the garden by the river. It is a little off the beaten track but worth the short walk from the centre. After lunch we strolled back into town along the river. The fish and chips were excellent, the fish cooked to perfection in a crispy tempera style batter and the staff were so nice, it was altogether a memorable reunion lunch with friends.

It was wonderful to be able to make multiple card payments, efficiently and cheerfully conducted by your staff. \n\nThe food was excellent, though that almost goes without saying.\nI wish I had noted names to compliment the staff who looked after us; there were at least three excellent people. \n\nThe website isn't as helpful as the people -- we were asked to pre-order, but could not, and the option to make changes didn't work. A single phone call made the booking change required, and the staff handled our orders efficiently without the need to pre-order.

I am blown away at how good this meal was. I have been to the finest 3 Michelin star restaurants in the world, and this beats most of them. I’d highly recommend visiting.

To the chef, please don’t change anything about this menu so I can come back and have it all again.

The chef starts you out with three “snacks” all three are amazing the liver mousse being the star, and the salty ham and truffle bite was also incredible.

Get the pigeon as a starter, is absolutely beautiful and tastes fantastic. The sauces are so deep flavorful, you just want to eat more and more.

The bread course is by far the best bread I’ve had in a restaurant. The only complaint I have all night is, I would like 2 pieces instead of one, it’s just that good.

The pre dessert was stunning, maybe the best pre dessert I’ve ever had.

And the dessert was a show stopper. I had the coffee and chocolate mousse, with the banana ice cream it was a standout dish and one of the best desserts you will ever have. BUT the Mille-Feuille was even better. Honey Caramelized pastry crust, with sharp rhubarb and sweet orange zest. It was a top 3 dessert.

I can’t wait to come back, if you are on the fence about visiting, trust me, come now before Chef gets 2 Michelin stars and the price goes up.

My BF is a chef and I wanted to spoil him. After expert advice from Lainston House, I chose the table s chef and it was worth every penny. From the antique looking personalised scroll to the attentive and friendly service, we were exquisitely looked after. The sommelier recommended the perfect wine to pair and Ben was looking after us with him. The chefs were soooo good. Each dish was a delight and the finesse of the presentation was outstanding. Each chef came to introduce the dish they prepared. I guess we met them all. Very professional and friendly. My BF commented on how tight knit the team was. We were both also impressed by their thorough cleaning at the end of the night shift. All in all, an extraordinary experience where everything was just so. Next time, we ll try the Avenue restaurant

We arrived early and room was ready but had we arrived later car park would have been full, so be warned! Parking costs £15 a day. Function suite and private dining rooms.

We did a reccy of the pubs and restaurants In Winchester and the Wykeham Arms seemed to offer a more interesting menu and wasn't part of a national chain so we booked a table for the sane evening. Inside the pub was unspoilt with old wood panelling, wood fires and furniture and decor appropriate to the age of the pub. We sat in an intimate dining room with a good atmosphere and were served by the lovely Ella( sorry if we've misremembered your name) we had the confit duck and the pub's special lamb pie. Both were delicious and followed by wonderful puddings made in house by their own pastry chef which were also fantastic. The wine list was good with a range of prices. All the young staff were friendly and helpful with prompt and polite service. It was a lovely evening and we would highly recommend it.

Leah, Izzy and tallulah served us on New Year’s Day for my birthday, they were amazing, they put candles in my pudding, gave us a love heart on the table and even gave us a drink on the house! So cute! We’ve been to Winchester zizis so many times, and we’ve seen these girls loads and they’re always working so hard and are so kind.
And I won’t forget about the chefs! The food never misses!

Went in with a friend to get a drink. Bar tender (a guy ) was really polite and good service and I’m assuming the lady manager really polite chatty and kind. They were busy ! I came to Eighty Eights a lot at my time at uni. At no point did I ever receive bad service, bad food or have a bad time.
The food is fantastic and the staff, especially Alex are lovely.

This is the only place I know that sells coconut water. So convenient if this is your choice of drink, you're travelling and you're thirsty. Not sure why it is called pumpkin cafe though I couldn't see any of the popular oversized squash based vegetable on sale so maybe stick to supermarkets if that is what you were thinking they sold. Others on this site complain about the staff personally I found the lady serving delightful and I prefer her to being served by some AI Avatar who is attractive but unable to feel true emotion....and has blue skin. To offer a balanced view it is cheaper if you invest in a flask or buy your snacks before your journey in a supermarket but if you can't be bothered to be organised then expext to pay over the odds for flavoured hot water and don't Complain on here about it..... honestly this is not the right platform to inspire genuine change.

They were often away from the counter doing jobs out the back which meant customers were waiting to served. After getting the train back from watching Basingstoke Fc, I was thirsty however I did not have any money so I came here to get a glass of water and the lady who gave the water to me was so lovely. I hope to come here again soon to order a pizza as they smell fantastic!
