Bouchon Bistrot
Bouchon Restaurant Ltd, Gilesgate, HexhamBouchon just gets better and better. Lunch there is now our regular monthly treat. The food is excellent, with careful attention to detail; the staff are delightful - friendly and good humoured, always helpful, patient even when under pressure. And that includes the manager - I'm amazed at some of the comments here. They allow customers to relax over a meal, that's so important.\nParticular recommendations - the duck confit, rump of lamb, rabbit and pheasant have all been superb, I've got my eye on cassoulet for our next visit. The desserts range from dainty to substantial - the tarte tatin is big enough for two!

Vercelli Restaurant Hexham
36-38 Priestpopple, HexhamWe visited this Italian restaurant for a pre-booked, non-refundable Dolly Parton dinner and bottomless drinks experience. \n\nWhen my lift fell through (it’s an hour trip each way), I decided to drive rather than miss a catch-up with friends and lose the fee – I’m glad I didn’t cancel as it turned out to be a lovely night.\n\nFirstly Andrea Pattison as Dolly was bloody amazing! Her voice, interaction and show was brilliant. Also her technician was spot on with the sound system so it was perfect sound for the venue! \n\nThe staff were great, so friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty, good choice despite it being a limited menu and with the bottomless package very good value, especially if you’re drinking. \nNormally, their bottomless lunch is £35, which includes a welcome cocktail, two courses, and 1hr 45 mins of unlimited Prosecco, lager, or gin & mixer and a shot of Limoncello – or £25 if you're going alcohol-free. On our visit, as there was entertainment (Dolly Parton) it was £45.\n\nAs mentioned the staff were absolutely lovely – really attentive and generous with the top-ups, so those drinking definitely got great value for money. I had the welcome drink and then switched to sparkling water, but I was surprised to be charged £2.75 for a non-alcoholic lager, since I’d paid the full £45. I couldn’t have the alternative Pepsi either as it’s caffeinated! \nThe server did advise me at the point of ordering that it wasn’t included in the bottomless deal, but I did assume on closing the bill out that they would realise I had paid full price, hadn’t had any alcohol and only one non-alcoholic lager, that it would have been forgiven. If I’d been drinking alcohol, I wouldn’t have had to pay anything extra, which felt a little unfair.\n\nThat said, it was a fun night, the food was good, and the atmosphere was great – I’d just love to see a bit more thought for the designated drivers/ones who can’t drink next time!

28 Priestpopple, HexhamVisited with some work friends, starters very nice, main courses a good size but I would say a little sweet. The waiter who was dealing with us was very friendly. Only reason for 4 stars is that 5 poppadoms and a pickle tray were £10, this isn't right these should be complementary.

Subway
Bridge End, Hexham Services, Off Rotary Way, HexhamLast Saturday I went into subway to grab a quick bite for lunch with my family. We were met by quick service and friendly staff. One staff member who stood out the most was a girl who’s name I believe was Kayshia. She was polite and made great conversation and on top of that had our order done quickly. I can only describe her as the best subway sandwich artist. Five stars from me.

The Rat Inn
Anick, HexhamIt is remiss of us that this review is late, by over 3 months and we extend our sincere apologies to the proprietors and staff. On the 24th October 2024, we had a family post wedding meal at The Rat Inn, having eaten there once, prior to our October booking. On both occasions, the food and service was absolutely superb. There is no other word for it. The staff did everything possible to look after us. The table was beautifully prepared, the welcome warm and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Over a three course lunch, the range and standard of the food was exceptional. Everything was fresh, very well cooked, very well prepared and delicious. In our 70's we wanted an informal, quiet post wedding family meal but one of very high quality and this requirement was met 'in spades'. The prices are a little higher than other pubs perhaps but we felt very reasonable and what you would expect to eat at a gastropub of this calibre. We were delighted to find The Rat Inn and have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this gem of a gastropub.\nJan and Derek

Market Pl, Hexham5/5 as far as Spoons are concerned. Reading some of these reviews, I’m not sure what people expect from a Wetherspoons as we had a great visit. Of course if you’re paying Spoons prices you’re not going to get Michelin quality food and you might have a few people in enjoying drinks. Great pints, hot and tasty food and great service from all staff. Nice grand venue with art deco styling. An interesting, cheap and tasty place to visit for lunch.

44 Priestpopple, HexhamStunning food, we had a family dinner on bank holiday Sunday and were greeted warmly by the host. The restaurant was busy and had a great atmosphere. We all ordered the sharing platter, and had delicious freshly cooked popadoms and chutneys while we waited. The sharing platter was exquisitely presented (wish I taken a photo) and tasted as good as it looked, we followed this with classic curries with naans and rice. Though there are lots of more adventurous dishes on the menu if you want to try something a bit different. Everything was delicious, staff were friendly and attentive, we enjoyed it so much we bought chef Khaled Mhia’s recipe book. Look forward to trying to recreate some of his classics. Best curry house in the North east by a country mile!
