Rydal Rd, AmblesideFriendly staff who gave great service and the food was absolutely delicious. The carbonara on the specials menu was amazing and the pesto dip with the focaccia bread was the best pesto I’ve ever tasted. Certainly tell it was all home made. Had to leave a name and contact number as no table available when we arrived as no bookings can be made. But we hadn’t even finished our drink and the table was available. Excellent experience and highly recommend

Had an amazing 8 course menu, each course explained in detail by the waiters/waitresses. The food was varied, exciting and delicious! Small intimate dining area but they took care in arranging everyone to have a good amount of space.

The Apple Pie Cafe and Bakery
Rydal Rd, AmblesideWe visited here as we were passing through Ambleside and we were so pleased we did! The service was incredible - such friendly, happy staff who are willing to take their time with you. The apple pie was always going to be good but wow, it was AMAZING! I wish I’d had room for a couple more! We also had a brunch butty and a cheese and potato pasty - both of which were delicious! Plenty of seating and the queue moves quickly. Toilets are so clean too - always a big plus!

Compston Rd, AmblesideExcellent food - was genuinely spicy, unlike many British Thai restaurants. The waiter gave extra chillies when asked.
Beware the manager, he can be rude and lacks customer service skills.

Rydal Rd, AmblesideI visited on a weekend with friends. It was a rainy day and the place was very crowded. Seats and tables were full. Outdoor tables are all not properly rain proof.

The roast dinner was really great and a good portion of meat. The sticky toffee pudding is a really good one.
The only issue was the jug of custard is tiny for £1 and I wouldn’t bother getting it.

The Priest Hole Restaurant
Church St, AmblesideI stop by this place on a sunday travelling through windermere i google sunday lunches it popped up first and did not dissapoint very good value fantastic staff highly recommended, also if you can manage it just go for dessert they're way better than you could imagine.
Ill be travelling back here in the next few months when im back to the lakedistrict worth a stop, a chance passing im now a customer that will travel here. Keep up the good work ??❤️

2 St Mary's Ln, AmblesideBooked in advance and requested a corner table due to slight hearing difficulties. Had a brilliant table in the corner upstairs which was fab. Service was brilliant and the food was equally as good. Beware the portions are big!

Rydal Rd, AmblesideThis charming little cafe is fab we came for lunch which was delicious and then went back for cake and coffee later on the same day. Throughly recommend the scones and carrot cake as well as the soup and sandwich offer!

North Rd, AmblesideGreat Sunday roast and lovely service. We came back to eat again but unfortunately they weren't serving food on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A proper old fashioned pub with a nice atmosphere and even our dog was welcomed and looked after.

All the staff we met were really helpful and friendly. And the food was brilliant.

Friendly/quick service, tables were clean, background music pleasant (jazz) and it wasn't too busy (weekday lunchtime).We loved the water dispenser by the entrance. There were small glasses available and we could help ourselves to free citrus flavoured chilled water (there were slices of orange, lemon and lime in the dispenser). It was really nice as we had just finished a walk, but hadn't taken any water with us so were pretty thirsty!

Borrans Rd, AmblesideLovely little cafe to have a bite to eat/drink while sitting outside and watching the world go by …..see photos of boats etc. drinks & food served in ‘takeaway’ cups/plates. EXPENSIVE though in the car park (see photos) . Nice walk along to nearby Borrans Park where youngsters were paddle boarding. Good gift shop nearby too.

7 Lake Rd, AmblesideChina cottage was lovely! Bit of a quiet night but we went and absolutely LOVED the food! We shared a quarter duck to start with and got loads of it! I had the stir fried beef with mushrooms and my dad had sweet and sour chicken. We shared egg fried rice, salt & pepper chips, and curry sauce. Everything was delicious, really good value for money and plenty between two people for sure! There was also a great Prosecco deal on! The lovely lady waiting on us was fab too. Would highly recommend!!

Old Stamp House, The, Church St, AmblesideWe enjoyed a wonderful lunch at The Old Stamp House. We walked through the busy noisy streets of Ambleside under grey clouds -- and stepped into a different world: quiet, peaceful, calming. We had three attentive servers who guided unthought a special lunch. The courses included two appetizers of duck liver and a rabbit roll; small shrimp in cauliflower puree; bread and butter; local mushrooms with spelt and egg dusted with black truffle; poached trout with pickled artichoke and a trout roe sauce; loin of local deer with sausage and micro greens and an incredible side dish of venison shank encased in celeriac puree; and carmelized rum tart with blackberries. My favorites included the stewed venison shank with celeriac puree-- the venison was intensely flavored. The setting was calm. The service was excellent. A wonderful lunch !

Church Cottage, College St, Grasmere, AmblesideWe saw the shop at Hawkshead but decided to buy at Grasmere as that was our last stop. Although we were advised by the staff at Hawkshead that there is no need to queue if we bought at Hawkshead.
Bad decision.
The queue at Grasmere was long.
Next time we will get the biscuits at Hawkshead.

The service was good, although we did wait a good 30 minutes between starter & main course. One of our party didn't have a starter so that wasn't ideal as she was hungry.
Food however was excellent & the portions generous.

Minstrels Gallery
Berkeley Square, Hawkshead, AmblesideA great tea-room in the heart of Hawkshead village. Visited there three times when I stayed in the village and the food and cakes were consistently excellent. It specialises in tea, offering 30 varieties, and a pot is a very reasonable £3.00. The staff were very helpful and welcoming.
The Minstrels’ Gallery is a well-preserved 15th to 17th-century building, originally known as Crown Mitre Cottage, likely serving as a pub or inn before becoming a tearoom. Its Grade II listing and central location underscore its historical and cultural significance in Hawkshead.
The business is currently up for sale so things may change in the near future. For now, it is a place well worth visiting.
