Went for a meal with friends. quick services and cheerful staff. Food was tasty but nothing special, wine was lovely. There was a mix up with the bill but was sorted straight away. It was a good night.

Beehive

Great experience for a special family meal on one of the busiest nights (quiz night) Atmosphere always fab staff all lovely and always go the extra mile. Kirsty is an absolute credit to the Beehive.

Casa Romana

Excellent food. Risotto and Bolognese off the Happy Hour menu, along with Dough sticks and a goats cheese appetiser, which were both excellent! Service was perfect. Quiet and friendly with an upscale feel, without the price tag. Would definitely recommend!

Khan's at the Waterloo

A nice restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. Attentive staff. My meal was very tasty and well presented. One small issue that I did not mention at the time was that the 'garlic' naan could do with more garlic, either butter or garlic pieces. Recommended to me by the 'String of Horses Inn' staff member.

Royal Outpost Thai & Asian Restaurant Carlisle

Honestly, this place is unreal! The food was banging – full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Proper 10/10 meal, I couldn’t fault a thing. We ate some absolutely banging dishes – seafood was on point! The staff were sound too, really friendly and looked after us well.

Vibes were great, food came out hot and fresh, and everything just hit the spot. Hands down one of the best places I’ve eaten in Carlisle – I’ll definitely be back!

The Old Bank

What an absolute gem of a find! The Old Bank exceeded all expectations – the food was excellent, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The cocktails were fantastic, crafted with real care and creativity.

The service was just as impressive – warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being overbearing. Matt and Harry have created something really special here, and it shows in every detail of the experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again soon. A big well done to the team – highly recommended!

I was hungry and so asked for a big calzone. What I got was a humungously huge one. Generous portions, quality food, good service, convenient location in market, fair prices, what's not to like?

Never been before so popped in after a busy day, got greeted by a lovely man called Dylan who was really helpful explaining the menu and giving a solid recommendation for some pizza. Top tier service, really made sure I was comfortable.

Harraby Pub & Kitchen

Excellent stopover large flat car park just off M6. Made to feel so welcome good food & reasonable priced. On bus stop or walk to town centre. Aldi across the road.

Everest Kitchen

We ordered the Everest special meal. 2 starters ( chicken tikka starter and onion bhaji) 2 mains (chicken tikka madras and chicken tikka patiya) chips, it also comes with plain and peshwari naan breads, boiled rice and pilau rice , poppadoms, mango chutney, garlic sauce and mint raita,.and 2 cans of choice (we had Fanta X2) and our meal was absolutely delicious. The flavours were amazing. Everything cooked to perfection. This is enough to feed a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) the portions are huge. Would highly recommend this takeaway. The staff were friendly and helpful on the phone and polite when I went to collect. Thanks for a great meal and wonderful service!

Gurkha Spicy

We were looking for a new Indian takeaway in Carlisle after being so disappointed with others I care not to mention.
After reading the good reviews we decided to give gurkha a pop.
Wow incredible flavours your palet will burst.
Fast delivery and as I could not finish it I saved some for my Sunday breakfast.
It tasted even better cold.
This takeaway has to be the best Indian food as far as I'm concerned in our great city of Carlisle.
Can't wait until our next experience.
I had the ceylon with chicken tikka and mushroom rice. The wife had the Indian munchie box so delicious I kid you not.

Just wanted to leave this take away a review as i think some reviews can be misleading, delivery was very fast & young man was extremely polite. Pizza was tasty, salad was fresh, only problems being that seperating the slices of pizza proved a bit tricky & the garlic mayo could use an update. Yet to try the churros but they look lovely. Nice ice cold can. Overall positive.

Rickerby Retreat Bar

Beautiful surroundings. We sat outside and had champagne afternoon tea, which was delicious. Staff friendly and attentive

Lounge on the Green

Lovely small, dog friendly cafe a few minutes off the motorway. Freshly cooked food and extensive selection of home baked cakes and scones. Great service too. Much nicer than the usual services.

Thin White Duke

Great atmosphere and attentive staff. Quite possibly the best service we have received in the UK. The Pan Fried Hake was outstanding and the Veg Thai Green Curry was solid. You must have the Bombay Cauliflower starter if available. So happy to experience this delight.

The Stag Inn

One of our 'go to' eateries. On this occasion we went in the evening with visiting friends. We were not disappointed. We shared starters & puds & our mains were piping hot & delicious (fish, 2 x venison & hubby said best steak he's ever had).
Never disappoints but please get a 'bitter' on your taps ;)

Penny Blue Restaurant & Bar

Booked for a friend's birthday. Group of 8 of us, 7 of them had never been before. A few had starters - the Cumberland Sausage and Scallops were very well received! For mains, a couple had steak, 1 had salmon and the rest of us had the Penny Blue burger. All cooked to everyone's taste. The staff were amazing and were not flustered at all with all of our requests for drinks - felt like we kept them busy!! Big thanks to Nikole and Charlotte, brilliant service! The 7 of them that had not been before have all said they will definitely be back!

Apple Tree

Arrived with friends and ordered through the app and the drinks came really quick very friendly staff Connor Megan and chantel was soo friendly. The food was delicious so big shout out to the chefs on. It was a great atmosphere.

Penny Farthing Coffee House

Sat in for a few hours doing some work. Had a coffee and veggie sausages sandwich. Later had the lentil and spinach lasagne which came with garlic bread and salad and was very tasty.
Service was friendly and prompt throughout.
Very reasonable prices which and good value.
It was £13 for everything.

Really really nice family meal, well cooked very quick service but not rushed.
Have been here before when visiting family, will go back and would recommend it for a meal with the family as a couple or even alone. Beer was okay too. The staff were really friendly and helpful

Great food fantastic service lovely people to deal with. Fast delivery service very friendly place to eat.. Still doing a first class job despite covid. Just had two takeaways on Friday and Saturday they are even better than previous occasions. This undoubtedly the best Chinese in town. Covid standards still being maintained. Just had another first class meal they undoubtedly go the extra mile to accommodate there customers.Parking: Off street parking

Go to Chinese in Carlisle, cant fault the food at all! Always comes hot and delicious. Only issue really is delivery time can be a bit long but obviously this is down to the popularity of this local small business and will be worth the wait. Recommend ordering a bit earlier than you normally would order to avoid this. Shredded beef in Peking sauce is a personal favourite

Stanley's Bar & Restaurant

Myself and my friends went for bottomless drinks last Saturday. We were running late and they were totally accommodating. The young girl who served us for the duration was an absolute star and credit to the team. She was attentive, friendly, and approachable. I didn't catch her name, but I hope she reads this and knows what a fantastic job she did!

She helped to make what was a memorial brunch a happier occasion. Many thanks for a wonderful time!

I only live 2 mins down the road so i collect my food, so I cant comment on the delivery services. Since we discovered it, it's our go to place for a quick scran. They do a banging munchies box which is dirt cheap for the variety and what you get ? Give it a go if you've not already.

Kelly is wonderful to work with. Great rooms, fabulous breakfast, warm hospitality. She even helped with a birthday surprise for my partner. Located an easy walk from the rail station.

Costa Coffee Drive Thru

Has to be one of the best coffees I've ever had at any of these types of places.

Polite, helpful staff and a great atmosphere to enjoy the coffee.

Also not far from the motorway and cheaper full opposite at Asda than there was on motorway 32p a litre cheaper.

Happy days all round.

Had a blast over the weekend staff mint and doormen are brilliant so funny yet still on the ball if out to happen : cheap drinks as well cheapest place we went . Just canny all round . Defo worth a visit. Even bagged me self a straw key ! If you na you na lol

This is our favourite services on the motorway. My parents are both disabled. The disabled toilets are the best .very clean aswell very spacious staff are always accommodating and friendly sheena and Louise were on shift today. Always remember us .good that staff can remember their returning customers . Would highly recommend. Lovely place to stop for a costa coffee ?

Carlisle Station Hotel | Sure Collection by Best Western

Staff were friendly, location is perfect, bathtub was great! Extra fan and heater in the room incase temperature is an issue.

My only reason that I did not give a 5* is the fact that the bed wasn't as comfortable as I had anticipated, as well as I did find a long hair on the inside bathtub wall upon arrival (Not the end of the world).

Also, it is less then a 1 minute walk to the train station and the Citadel.

I would stay here again if I came back to Carlisle.

McDonald's

The best McDonald's I've ever visited...
And I've been to a few!!
This particular branch has the best staff and they make very few order hiccups. The restaurant is always clean and organised.

Three of us visited on Sunday. It was fabulous. Top quality ingredients used and prepared beautifully. Staff were attentive and efficient. Will definitely go again when we are back up in Cumbria.
Highly recommend this Restaurant and stay in the rooms.

The Near Boot

Fabulous pub with friendly, efficient staff and even better food. Nothing overly fancy or over the top, just good ingredients prepared and presented very well. Generous portions too.
Very good value for money; our bill was just over £50 for two mains and two puddings with three soft drinks.
Good sized beer garden as well.
100% recommended and we'll definitely return when we're in the area.

The Sportsman Inn

A group of us decided to stop for some lunch. It looks like an Olde Worlde traditional English pub and that's exactly what we got and all the better for that. I was out with three lady friends, all ex colleagues that I hadn't seen for nearly fifty years. To find traditional cask beers on the bar was a huge plus for me. I had a really good pint from the Loch Lomond brewery. Well, it is close enough to Scotland. It was called The Gloaming and an old style 80 shilling ale. Great start. The old pub combined informal dining and drinkers very well.
We all enjoyed our food. Two had steak and ale pie which looked really good. One fish & chips and I had Cumberland sausage that was very tasty. I would heartily recommend here for a comfortable stop off during your visit to the City or just out shopping. It was a nice day and others were sat outside on the churchyard wall enjoying their pints. The church of St. Cuthbert is worth seeing too.
A mention too for the lady behind the bar who was really nice with us.

*dog friendly* Pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem in Carlisle. Great cocktails, lovely staff and clientele. It's got the speakeasy vibe about it. Great outdoor area and it's dog friendly. Shhh! Don't tell anyone.

I collect from here and deliver to Telford CML grew up with Darren one of the managers worked with Tommy at Robertsons bakery before it burned down, try the new teddy bear crumpets , excellent value for money and delicious with salted butter and marmalade

Quiet for a Saturday night but the staff alone are worth the five star. Made me feel so welcome as a lone diner. Very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. Lovely lasagna and nice crispy chips

Visited on a Friday evening, busy, menu as online, we ate mixed starters then souvlaki, well presented, tasty food and good sized portions.\nThe negatives were that it did seem very expensive (nearly £100) and the staff were not very welcoming.\nOverall very good

Brilliant place for a cuppa. We stopped here on a journey from Newcastle for a break. So glad that we did. Lovely laid back atmosphere and the food was great. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. They were so kind to everyone and they seemed to be enjoying the work which makes a huge difference. Liked the local art and clocks on the walls to look at too!

Whenever I’m passing through Carlisle station, I always take the time to visit. Food is always excellent and the service was great on this visit. I was advised there would be a wait while they cooked me a cod, which was fine as it’s definitely better cooked fresh and it wasn’t a long wait anyway. The food did not disappoint, it was all fresh and tasty and for £7.80 for a ‘small’ (it was still a healthy portion) including a side of gravy it’s a very reasonable price. For similar quality and portions down in Yorkshire where I live you’d be talking easily over £10.

First visit to this restaurant. Like others before me, I found the staff to be a little off. Like they didn’t really want me there. Other than that, the food was very tasty. Fast service and reasonably priced. Very empty on Wednesday night. As you’d expect.
Would imagine the weekend atmosphere to be better. Give it a try ?

David's Restaurant

First time visiting David's and a very enjoyable experience, the food was spot on and the service was excellent . The restaurant was lovely and clean and nicely decorated...would highly recommend!

Pentonbridge Inn

This place is such a gem, with the warmest welcome! The MOST delicious top-notch food, great service and ambiance plus a stunning view. Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms too.

I Love Cafe

Excellent food. Staff 1st class. One gripe. To charge £3 for a ramekin of beans and one slice of white bread toast is in my opinion a blemish on an otherwise excellent venue. Poorly costed item

La Mezzaluna

Excellent food and great service at La Mezzuluna. Everything was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully cooked. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

The Auctioneer

We always have a family get together between Christmas and New Year. We are a large family, which grows each year, what with marriages and babies. (Now well over 40) As we have grown out of family houses as a venue, we thought it a good idea to go to somewhere that could cater for us all , so we booked The Auctioneer, having experienced their excellent service in the past.\nFANTASTIC, a beautiful and comfortable venue, with lots of room for the children to run free. Our own private bar. With a buffet to die for !!, and the puddings !!. Nothing was wasted as we were given boxes to take anything left. It was so relaxed and the staff were excellent. THANK YOU SO MUCH. You made it special.

Kevin and Claire have got you covered.
Their food is amazing their service is fantastic. They have created a warm atmosphere that makes you feel welcome and at home.
They are always busy which is a testament to their lovely cafe.

Cathedral Café

Delicious scones and tea in a light and warm refectory with great views of the cathedral entrance and Augustinian Priory ruins. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Downstairs seating also in the crypt and outside at ground level. Toilets on both levels. Lift available for wheelchairs/prams.

Anatolia Turkish Mez Bar & Restaurant

Been twice, had some amazing food, only complaint really is the portion size for what you pay on a couple dishes, mainly the starters is a bit extortionate for what you get

Espresso Hub

In the centre of Carlisle, underneath the Tourist Information Centre (and actually the neighbour of a bigger, more well-known coffee chain) is this absolute jewel of a coffee shop. Being a superfan of great coffee, I ordered a Flat White and sat outside to wait. I am really, really pleased to report that my coffee absolutely blew away anything that could be offered next door. Well presented in nicely coloured crockery and with a neat bit of latte art, this coffee was made by someone who clearly loves coffee. A well-balanced, sweet, corto espresso shot carried in well textured milk, it was the perfect start to a day and totally justified the skills needed to make a truly great cup of coffee. Brilliant!

Bartons Yard

We traveled up on the train for a quick visit. Our dog was with us, but that wasn't a problem. The service was lovely. Friendly, and spoke when they felt you wanted to. We had 6 tapas plates. All the dishes were packed full of flavour, and beautifully presented. We had sliced picahn steak, haggis bon bons, prawns, mini fish and fries and (I think it was) butternut squash rissotto. All delicious, although, risotto maybe works less well as a tapas.
We had the primitivo wine. I'm a regular wine drinker, not an expert; but, it was a really nice wine.
We will be returning at some point in the future.

Stanwix Tandoori Restaurant

Wow. What amazing service. All the staff was friendly and kind, especially Mr Ali, who served me and was so respectful! I would highly recommend visiting this splendid restaurant in Carlisle. Definitely a 5 star rating for me.

The Crown Inn

Solid local pub with good food! The bar only had one person on staff but she was doing an amazing job! Food was solid pub grub with zero complaints. Great rotating ales on tap that make each trip special. I would definitely come back again!

Crown & Thistle Inn

First visit for me and it most certainly will not be the last. From the moment my friend and I walked in (she has been a few times) to the moment we left every thing was top notch. The staff were very welcoming and even though we had not booked and the place was packed ( amazing for a Thursday lunch time ) they found a table within a few minutes. Drink order taken. When drinks arrived our lunch order was taken and arrived quickly. The food was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. I had the cumbrian lamb pie and my friend the corby hill steak pie. Both of them to die for. I decided not to have a dessert but my friend had Tasting of Raspberry, not only did they look good but they tasted great too. Great experience certainly go back. Thanks to everybody 10/10

I Had two birthday cakes made for the 60th birthday of my Lady friend, one lemon sponge and one fruit with icing, they were beautifully made ready on time and tasted delicious. Thank you.

Casa Crisci

We booked for the vegan night but couldn't make it due to illness. The owner was amazing. So understanding and let us collect it as takeaway to enjoy when better. Even as a takeaway it was so delicious and we look forward to going back for a proper sit down meal sometime! Thank you again for everything!

The Brickyard

This is my first visit to this venue for a family night out spanning three generations.
Such a historic building that I must research to satisfy my curiosity.
The gentleman on the door was very pleasant and helpful and was happy to arrange a chair for one of our group if there were none left, and the staff at the bar were brilliant with a fabulous sense of humour. Clearly, very experienced with a better memory than me as when I went back for another drink, no words were exchanged, just smiles.
The facilities were good, clean working toilets and the cloakroom was a very reasonable £2. There were a few bench seats and coffee tables available to one side of the venue with the rest as standing.
The bands we saw were brilliant. The lighting and sound quality were really good. Overall, it was a fantastic night.
I would definitely visit this venue again.
The venue is a short walk from both the train station and buses. There's parking nearby, too, including free on street parking with disc zones that end at either 18:00 or 19:00, do you may only require a disc for an hour as we did.

Bookcase

This is a great book shop, combining secondhand (Bookcase) and new (Bookends) stock, and a cafe. The second-hand rooms are a delightful labyrinth. They also have a lot of vinyl records especially classical, though these aren't at bargain prices.

Castlegate Coffee House

Phoned them for an afternoon tea at short notice after an unexpected visit to Carlisle, couldn't do usual, but what they did provide was excellent and beautifully presented, would def go again, very recommended!

The Milbourne Arms

Was previously our local. Now we go out of our way to visit.
No one in Carlisle looks after their beer like Trevor.
Sunday Dinner's always a real treat too.

The Source

Brilliant venue! We went to watch a band (Blue Scarrow were amazing!) They have open mic nights, jam sessions, and performances from local bands! Quirky decor too!

Gyropolis

Best gyros I ve had in years.
Also, the best value for money souvlaki I had in UK the past 13 years. Packed with meat that gets marinated with real greek herbs. Oregano from Greece just tastes different hands down.
The place is not that in the photos. It's just a small stall in the marketplace, but omg, the food is so much worth it!
The owners are so kind and polite, too. It's definitely worth a visit.

Greggs

Wanted to leave a review as the tall young gentleman went above and beyond when I spilled my coffee in store! I felt so bad and he was really lovely about it and wouldn't let me help when I offered to clean it up. Need more people like yourself!

Spinners Arms

Just BRILL and great real ale, brilliant music pub, owners excellent, staff excellent, highly recommended

The Fryery

Quite simply the best chip shop in Carlisle - worth the move or drive up to Stanwix for! The food is so fresh and well cooked, and really good portion sizes as well and well priced. I don't know anyone who has had anything bad from this place. The staff are really friendly and brilliant at their jobs, the service is so fast and efficient, and it's spotlessly clean everywhere.

Foxes Café Lounge

Friendly staff and excellent food and coffee. There was a delicious richness to the flat white and the chicken in the chicken, avo and mozzarella panini was cooked to perfection. The baked potato with tuna was also excellent. The homemade salad dressing was really good and the homemade pickled red onions accompanying it were divine. \nThe staff were also very welcoming to our soggy dog (it was raining heavily when we arrived) and didn’t bat an eyelid at the amount of water falling off him. \nThis is definitely our go-to cafe in Carlisle from now on. \nIt’s also very conveniently located between the Castle car park and the Cathedral.

Corrie Kitchen Snack Bar

The most delicious cheeseburger! Freshly made, with cheese and onions- a taste sensation! Friendly staff and very clean. I’ll be making detours on my future journeys to eat here again.Parking: Off the main road

Central Chippy

Lovely find on our way home from Scotland to Cheshire. Wished our chippies used fresh potatoes and not half frozen chips.
Good portion size.
Lovely friendly staff.
Highly recommended.

The Esk Cafe

Nice little fish and chip shop. The food’s fresh and tasty, and prices are fair. Sometimes there’s a short wait if they’re cooking it fresh, but it’s worth it. Staff are friendly and easy to chat with. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re nearby.

Sausage roll and a stake bake.... no wait... peperoni pizza and a star buscuit...oh damm no ill have a flat white and a bacon n egg baguette..... cheap and tasty food.

The Reiver

Called in for a quick pint and bite to eat and was very impressed with the food, I had the steak and cheese ciabatta which came with a generous side salad and I added chips on to it. Couldn’t find fault with anything. Very pleased to have my local open again which serves good food and offers great value for money. Long may it last.
